Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us that it is more blessed to give than to receive.  At the 53rd Ave. Church of Christ, we strive to live out this truth.  We know that even Jesus, did not come to be served, but to serve others.  The ministries you will find below are tools that help us become more servant hearted, as we daily seek to be the body of Christ on Earth.

Food Pantry

Our food pantry puts together boxes for individuals and families in need.  Each box holds about enough food to feed a family of 4 for a week.  Our members donate the food- typically dry or canned good items, and then help package the boxes as well. The pantry is open every Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. except holidays.  We also deliver to shut-ins as a part of the pantry ministry.  If you would like to be involved in the pantry ministry, or need assistance with food, please contact the church office.

The SonShiners ministry is geared toward engaging seniors in fellowship and service as well.  The SonShiners help care for each other’s needs and those of our shut-ins as well.

Children’s Church

Every Sunday during the message portion of our assembly children ages 3 through the 2nd grade are invited to participate in Children’s Church.  The children spend time learning songs, and hear a message created specifically with this age group in mind.  Most lessons incorporate discussion time and a craft that helps to reinforce what was learned.  If you have any questions, please talk with James Harting, who is our deacon over the Elementary Education program.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer host a Vacation Bible School for all children ages 4 through the 5th grade.  Each night of VBS the children participate in singing, craft time, snack time, Bible lessons, and games.  Members of the community are invited to join with the children of our church as we learn more about the love of God and what that means for our lives. .

Prayer Warriors

The power of prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Our Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty.  Throughout the week, volunteers from our Prayer Warriors team pray for their ministers and shepherds, a list of church members, and any special request prayer needs.  If you have any questions about this ministry, please contact Melanie Duckett at the church office.

Worship Boosters

The members of the 53rd Avenue Church of Christ are committed to learning and incorporating new songs into our Sunday worship services. The worship teams meet every third Sunday of the month to learn these contemporary songs.  Because we worship a cappella as a congregation, learning the four part harmonies is an important facet of this ministry.  If you enjoy singing, we invite you to join us!  For more information, please see Randy Blankinship, who oversees this ministry.
